Collaborating Constructively In A Group

Working in a group really helps you, because it is easier and it teaches you to work cooperatively with a partner. However I have some struggles. Working with a partner is also hard, because sometimes you can't trust your partner in doing their side of the work. My partner said that he was going to do the work and I believed him. However when I looked the next day, he didn't do it. So I asked him why he didn't do his work. He said he'll do it on Monday, then I trusted him. The next day on Monday I checked and he did it. So now I know he'll do it and I trust him. When I looked at his passage I agreed with what he wrote. The passage he chose also made me connect to my passage that I wrote. It also made me think about the rest of the book and it made me connect to another idea that might happen further in the book.

Discussion Sheet Reflection

In our group when we discussed our discussion. I think we explained well because when we read each of our passages I think it led to a whole new plot that would happen. When another person in our group read there passage it led to a whole new plot that that our group agreed that that was the part that could happen in the story.

In one of our discussions I connected the book passage to when I was young. It was when my parents told me not to play with knifes. However I refused to listen to them and one day I cut my fingers. So I connected it to the part where in the book they were giving warnings to the girl Charlotte but she ignored them and then something bad happened.

In our group we predicted that when one of the crewmen gave the knife to her. She might be accused of murder because the horrible captain whipped the crewman. However when we read on we found out that that was not true. So we now predict that because the captain whipped Charlottes friend the crewman she will kill the captain with the knife the crewman gave her.

This image has a Symetrical line across the left window splitting the window in half and looking at both the sides and if you join them together they will be perfectly equal.

My Favorite Part of the Field Trip

My favorite part in the field trip was when we went to see the Fireflies.

It was my favorite part because it was so fascinating to see tiny lights on the trees at night as if they were Christmas trees. I could see the blinking of the lights a lot because it was nearly 9:00 at night. I particularly liked the part when we got to go close to the Fireflies. I even got to touch one! For the whole boat ride I was wondering how they blink their lights.

What startled me was that the Fireflies were all blinking their lights at the exact same time as if they were at a party all clapping to the music. However there was no music, only the rushing of the water passing by our boat. It was nice because it was so calm after all the shouting at the hostels. You could hear the paddle gently pushing the water by. It made you say "Yes, finally we don't have to walk".

It was also quite creepy because you could see pieces of wood passing by. My friend and I thought that they were crocodiles so we dared each other to touch the water with our finger. It was a lot of fun. At the end of the trip when I got out of the boat I was so tired. I saw there was a gift shop so I went there to buy a souvenir.

It was one of the best times I've ever had this year.

A time I Showed Courage

A time I showed courage was when I went to a Flying Fox place for my Birthday with my brother and my friends. I went on the adult Flying Fox. The adult one was 17 feet high so I was terrified. At first you had to climb a ladder to get to the top platform, the ladder was going straight up so half way up I prayed to myself. "Don't look down, don't look down".

A moment later I arrived at the top platform I was really tired after climbing up. I attached myself to the rope so you don't fall off, so it was OK to look down but I still didn't approach myself too much. The people below looked like tiny colorful dots. The first obstacle was only to make you get used to the height. You had to walk on a long green net, it wasn't that fun but it was really shaky so I was afraid to fall.

After that you had to walk on zig-zag planks. The planks were as thick as your foot so when you had to look where you were walking, you were automatically looking down I was sweating so much so that one was terrifying. The last one I will talk about was the Flying fox you had to swing on. You had to push yourself off the platform and glide across the forest. I had butterflies in my stomach but after a while I got used to it. It felt like I was on it for an hour but when I arrived at the platform I had to put my feet on it but when I did, my feet slipped and I went backwards. I was panicking a lot and wondering if I would get stuck in the middle of the wire but I was lucky my 14 year old brother grabbed my arm to pull me back on. That was the scariest out of all of the obstacles.

This was an important time in my life because I learned to conquer my fears like Mafatu conquered his fears by going across the sea when there was a hurricane.

What do the Artifacts tell us about Early Humans.

Some of the Artifacts of Early Humans tell us that they had very small brains. Their brain would be about one third of our brain. So if they had small brains they would have very basic tools, like sharp carved stone, to skin or cut food.

They also used stone to cut some wood for weapons and if they had weapons they probably had to go hunt and not go to the super market. After a million years or so their brain started to adapt or grow bigger so they would have had more adapted weapons to hunt like the spear thrower. The spear thrower would have helped them to throw the spear farther and stronger than just with your hands.

After about another million years later, their brain started to be as big as ours so they could use 100% of their brain to make even more complex artifacts like shells and beads to decorate. In their caves they spent their time carving little statues like a face of a women made out of smooth and polished mammoth tusk. On the walls of the caves there were also paintings and those paintings showed different animals like horses, buffalo, deer and handprints. These paintings probably meant that the Early Humans honored animals.

These were some of the ways Early Humans evolved into being us, modern humans.

What Kind of Social Scientist Would I Like to Be.

I would like to be a geographer because I really like nature and different environments. The place I would most like to study is Lozere. Lozere is a region in France with enormous forests, beautiful plants, rivers and grassy mountains.

Lozere is one of the places I have already visited which means I already know a lot about Lozere because I go there every summer. If I had a choice between rough terrain and grassy hills and lots of forests I would choose the one with a lot of forests. With my cousin and my brother we went on a trip in the forest on our bicycles. We decided to stop at a river. We put on our boots and our raincoats and we went across. It was really amusing and we later found out that it was a famous river in Lozere.

Being a geographer I would have to study about water. In Lozere there is a mineral water source called Volvic. I would like to study how it gets filtered through the volcanoes.

Now I will now tell you about plants, there are many kinds of plants in Lozere that are endangered in other places like foxgloves and gentians. In Lozere there are a lot of comestible plants like wild strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and mushrooms.

In Lozere it would be easy to survive just with nature that's why I would like to study it.
